Plot[]

The team gets called into a crime scene where Alderman James Burton was shot and killed. They believe it is a robbery as the Alderman's belongings were missing, and there was no obvious struggle. Denny Woods shows up on the scene telling Voight how his daughter, who got shot in Anthem, was doing much better. They get interrupted when detectives from Internal Affairs ask to talk to Olinsky at headquarters. When Voight asks Denny what going on, he just smiles and walks away. At headquarters, the detectives ask Olinsky about his connection with Kevin Bingham, the man that killed Voight's son Justin. They inform him how Al's DNA was found on the body, and Al quickly asks for a lawyer.

Meanwhile, Hailey and Jay talk to Rudy Finnegan, the man Alderman Burton was drinking with before he died. Rudy tells the partners how they were having drinks around midnight. He saw someone suspicious at the bar, and when Hailey asked for more details, he told them how the man was African-American and in his late twenties. After their talk with Rudy, the partners head back to the district. Hailey asks Jay if he knows what's going on with Olinsky, but Jay shrugs, claiming they may never know, especially if it involves Al. Kim and Voight talk to Alderman Burton's wife and son, asking if they have a list of personal items stolen from the Alderman. Burton's wife is angry that they think her husband was murdered because of his expensive watch. She believes the Alderman was killed because of his political beliefs, claiming to have angry people threaten the family. She tells them how Burton was in the middle of financing construction for housing. The team all meet up at the district, telling Voight they have no leads. Voight tells the team to chase the robbery angle, digging into who stole the Alderman's belongings. Voight also tells Adam privately to talk to Denny about this Olinsky issue knowing that Denny and Adam have a closer bond.

Antonio and Kim go talk to the medical examiner, who tells them how the weapon was a sniper. This confuses Kim and Antonio, and they conclude that the Alderman was sniped and the robbery was done to confuse the cops. As asked, Ruzek tries to talk to Denny, but he is quickly shut down by Woods, telling him to go away. Voight is shocked to hear that Denny sent Adam away, believing that whatever Woods has on Al is real.

Back at the district, Antonio tells Voight how the DNA found on Alderman Burton belongs to Darius Brown. Kim, Adam, Kevin, and Antonio arrest Darius and bring him in. Meanwhile, Voight finally talks to Olinsky about what IA wants. Al tells him how they found his DNA on Kevin's body and how he asked for a lawyer. He asks Voight if he could borrow some money to pay his lawyer, but Voight tells him how he put all his savings into a trust fund for his grandson, thinking he could be arrested any minute.

Back at the district, Antonio and Kim interrogate Darius asking how his DNA was found on the Alderman. Darius tells them how he found the body but ran away, claiming he never robbed it. Adam walks in and informs Darius how they found the Alderman's phone and Rolex at his apartment, and Darius finally confesses to robbing the Alderman but swears the man was already dead when he found him. He tells them how he saw a blue Chrysler quickly drive away from the body. Kevin tells Voight how there are nearly 5000 blue Chryslers in Chicago, and Voight tells him to run all of them. Halstead tells them how someone left a voicemail on Alderman Burton's phone threatening to kill him. He tracks the call to a payphone at a diner, and Voight sends him and Upton to check it out. At the diner, they talk to the owner, who is uncooperative at first, but after being threatened to call the Health Department, he tells the detectives that the voice sounds like a regular, Coleman Lewis. They bring Coleman in and ask about the threatening voicemail, which he admits to sending. Although he hates the Alderman, Coleman has an alibi for the time of his murder. Coleman tells Voight and Atwater how Burton and his son played dirty and have seen the son Arthur visit the Roadside Bar, a known gang hangout. Hearing that the son is also involved in his dad's business, they also question him. Voight asks Arthur if he and his father had any deals with local gangs but is interrupted by the Alderman's wife accusing Voight of trying to tear apart her family. She tells Voight to leave, which he does.

Back at the district, Kim and Kevin try asking Platt what's going on with Olinsky wondering whether it is related to Kevin Bingham, but Trudy says that she doesn't know anything either. Voight gets a call and quickly rushes to another crime scene with Antonio, where they find Arthur Burton's body. He was shot in the head just like his father. Voight realizes that none of these deaths were about politics but drugs and gangs. He believes that some of the gangs weren't fans of Burton building nice condos in the middle of their territory. Voight goes and sees Ms. Burton, apologizing for her losses. He tells her how Burton and his son were making large payments to an unknown gang, possibly to pay off their deal. The wife tells him the payments were most likely for the West Side Disciples. After talking to Ms. Burton, Voight pays a visit to one of the lead members of the West Side Disciples, Lamar Jenkins. He tells Lamar how he knows Alderman Burton made a deal with the West Side Disciples to stop the construction deal. Lamar didn't want the construction to happen, so he killed the father and the son to end the agreement. Lamar confesses to nothing and says he's not talking, and Voight tells him he knows everything.

Meanwhile, Denny talks to Olinsky, pressuring him to talk about Voight's involvement in the Kevin Bingham case. Denny informs Al that there is a witness that saw Al and a young woman at the place Kevin's body was found. Denny tells Al that he can have full immunity if he turns on Voight, claiming loyalty towards Voight is dumb. Al doesn't say anything and leaves the meeting. Back at the district, Hailey and Jay inform the team how they found a Blue Chrysler at Arthur Burton's shooting which belongs to Keon Walters. Patrol reports that they see the blue Chrysler parked outside a warehouse, and the team head over there.

Once the team is gone, Voight and Al talk about what Denny wanted. Al tells him they have a witness who can put him and a woman at the scene, and Voight asks more about the woman. Al tells him how Denny described the woman to be in her 30s with dark hair, and the two know that Woods is describing Erin, who helped Al and Voight move the body.

Meanwhile, the rest of the team finds the car and corner Keon Walters, but he drives away, leading to a police chase. The team finally surrounds the vehicle and arrests Keon. They find a pair of shoes and the murder weapon in his car. Keon has no priors, and the banker, Rudy Finnegan, is certain that Keon is not the guy at the bar, which means he has a partner. Antonio and Voight question Keon but he stays loyal and doesn't name the actual shooter. Voight tries to convince Keon that loyalty is stupid because, in the end, he is the one that will go to jail if he doesn't talk, and Al watches from outside. Because Keon isn't cooperating, Kim and Atwater decide to talk to Keon's friend Rochelle who speaks fondly of him. She believes Keon didn't do anything and isn't part of any gang but thinks his cousin LJ is. Keon has sickle cell, so he visits the hospital with LJ often. After checking visitor logs, they ID the cousin as Lamar Jenkins. Knowing that Lamar is Keon's partner and the actual shooter, they try to get Keon to flip on Lamar, but he stays loyal. Al doesn't think Keon will ever flip, but Voight tells him how everyone has a breaking point no matter how strong they are. Seeing that Keon is no help, they let him go but place a tracker and microphone in his coat, hoping that Keon will lead them to Lamar. Hailey and Jay follow the Keon into a convenience store, where Keon buys a burner and calls Lamar, telling him to stay in Riverdale. Hailey and Jay pick up Keon while the rest of the team go arrest Lamar. They go to a disciple's house in Riverdale but find the house empty. Antonio and Kevin hear sounds from the garage, and Lamar drives off on a bike when they open it. Adam gets outside in time to stop Lamar, and the team arrests him. While searching the house, Al finds a bag full of cash and tells Voight about it. Before they can decide what to do with it, Kim and Antonio interrupt them, and they have no choice but to put the cash into evidence, which disappoints Al.

Back at the district, the team tries to get both Keon or Lamar to confess, but both of them are stubborn, and Keon maintains his loyalty. They try to use Keon's friend Rochelle as leverage by showing pictures of Rochelle and Lamar hanging out. Even after seeing these pictures, Keon still doesn't talk; instead, he confesses to shooting the Alderman and his son. Al and Voight try one last thing to get Keon to talk. They try to use his sickle cell as leverage, telling him that he won't be able to get medication for the sickle cell in prison. Keon freaks out, claiming that he needs the medication to deal with the pain. Eventually, Keon tells Voight and Al the truth about the shootings saying that he was the driver, but Lamar did all the shooting. They ultimately find Keon's breaking point and are able to charge Lamar for the murder. Once the case is closed, Voight finds Al in the parking lot and tells him how the witness Denny brought up is real. Al thinks they should call Erin and make sure both stories match up, but Voight thinks that's a bad idea. This makes Al realize that Erin is Voight's breaking point, leading to Voight asking Al what his is.

Quotes[]

Voight: Everybody's got a breaking point, Al. No matter how strong you are.
Olinsky: No, not everyone.

Woods: See, you're protecting Voight because that's your code. But you're the last of a breed. Loyalty above all else. Let me ask you something. Do you think Voight would fall on his sword to protect you? Nah, he wouldn't.
Olinksy: I know Voight.
Woods: I do too.

Voight: Man, this isn't about yoga studios or condos or destroying black culture. We're standing in the middle of the heroin highway. This is about drugs.

Upton: Hey, why do you think IAD picked up Olinsky?
Halstead: I don't know. With Olinsky, you may never know.
