Plot[]

Antonio and Eva, his daughter, are discussing her college applications. Antonio reminds her that being Latina is important and to stay true to herself, but he is called into a scene. Antonio meets Hailey at the crime scene where a young Latina is brutally murdered. They believe the woman had drugs in her body and was killed over it. Antonio is hesitant to take over the case, but Eva reminds him that they must help other Latinas, so he takes it.

Back at the district, the team goes over the case. They believe a young Latina drug mule was gutted to recover drugs. Voight sends Alvin to talk to his CI and partners Antonio with Burgess. Alvin's CI mentions a possible location of these drug mules, so the team head to a bus stop where they wait. A bus pulls up, and a young Latina climbs out, looking ill. The woman gets into a car, and before the car can speed away, the team moves in. They arrest the driver and bring him in and the young Latina. Kim talks to the drug mule and shows a picture of their victim, hoping to get a name. The woman claims she doesn't know and that their victim was too old to be a mule.

Jay and Voight interrogate the driver, trying to get him to flip, but he claims that all he does is drive the girls around. He also confirms that the young woman is not a mule because the way her belly is sliced is incorrect. Hailey confirms their theory sharing that their victim was raped, which is something cartels don't do. After canvassing the area, Kevin and Kim find bloody clothes and an ID in a dumpster near the crime scene. They are able to ID their victim, Gloria Morales, and head to her apartment, where they find a young boy, Oscar, who happens to be Gloria's son.

They bring Oscar back to the district, where Trudy tries to talk to him, but he stays quiet. Gloria Morales illegally came to the United States with her son and works at Bukowski Meat and Packing Company. The team heads there and asks the workers if they know her, but nobody comes forward. Kim and Antonio talk to John Bukowski, the factory owner, but he is no help, claiming that the immigrant workers here are just trying to get through the day. Before they leave, Kim runs into one of the workers, Lucia, and asks if she knows Gloria Morales. The woman hesitates but agrees, saying Gloria is her sister. They bring her in and ask more questions. She shares that Gloria was in a relationship with the factory owner's son, Michael. They bring him in and try to break him, hoping for a confession, but he asks for a lawyer instead. Voight sends Kim and Antonio back to the factory to get information from the workers, but when they get there, ICE is arresting all of them, including Lucia. Michael's dad called ICE on his own workers, hoping to get his son off the hook, angering Antonio. He promises Lucia that he will help her, but in the end, Lucia is deported back to Guatemala.

Trudy finds Oscar a group home to go to, but when he sees the van they are taking him in, he freaks out, saying that his mom got into a van like that and never came back. Trudy and Antonio realize that Oscar knew what happened the night of the murder. He says that his mom got into a van with a cow logo, and the driver was Latino, fat, and bald. Antonio returns to the factory to talk to the owner, and they get the suspect's name, Frank Lopez. They try to track down his van but find it on fire in an abandoned lot. They bring in Lopez, but he claims that his van got stolen. Voight and Antonio interrogate Lopez, asking what happened that night. Still, he sticks to his story of just giving Gloria a ride. Antonio gets frustrated and tries to get physical, but Voight stops him, reminding him of the new cameras installed in the interrogation rooms.

Voight sends Upton and Halstead to the morgue to see if there are any other victims with the same slicing. Meanwhile, Antonio and Kim ask around Pilsen for more information on their victim. They meet a store owner who claims that her niece, Monica Delgado, was also killed similarly. She says that Monica was being stalked by someone who worked at the Bukowski factory. She also remembered that the man had a necklace that said "Paz", which Frank Lopez has. Monica's brother Chico interrupts them and tells them to leave, saying that the police don't care about illegals.

Voight updates ASA Steve Kot on their investigation, but Kot tells them they have no evidence, just hearsay testimony. Voight decides to have Oscar do a line-up, hoping to nail Lopez. To make sure their plan is flawless, he tells Antonio the number where Lopez will stand for the line-up and asks him to tell the kid. Antonio decides to nail Lopez the right way, but when the line-up happens, Oscar is unable to ID Lopez. Voight is mad that they blew their one shot to nail Lopez for the murder, so he decides to pay Chico, Monica's brother, a visit to update him on the investigation.

Trudy brings Oscar to a new group home now that the investigation is over. After talking to Monica's aunt, Antonio finds out that Hank talked to Chico, so he rushes to Lopez's house and finds him brutally murdered. Realizing Voight had given Chico Lopez's name, Antonio confronts him. Voight tells him he wanted Lopez to die but was too afraid to say anything, but Antonio is furious. He heads home and tells Eva they found the guy who killed the young Latina woman. She is happy and reads part of her college application, with which Antonio is impressed.

Quotes[]

Dawson: I promised her. I looked her right in the eye and told her I'd keep her safe.
Voight: That's a tough check to cash, bro.

Voight: You wanted this to happen, Antonio. You're just too scared to admit it.

Dawson: (Voight wants Dawson to rig the police lineup) Oscar can put Lopez at the van the night his mother was killed.
Voight: Why roll the dice? We've got one shot at this, Antonio. If Lopez walks, he disappears, he goes somewhere else, he kills again. Number three.
